Statement by JLE President on National Volunteer Week 2017

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve.”
– Martin Luther King Jr.

Volunteers give of themselves because they take responsibility for the success of their communities. Because they know that with the ability to serve comes a duty to empower others. Because solidarity is crucial to the human experience. And because through serving others, the volunteer herself is transformed. This is the power of service.

This National Volunteer Week, we at the Junior League of Edmonton know the beauty of volunteerism is that we all benefit when people give their time and energy to strengthen our communities. We are immeasurably grateful for our members’ tireless dedication to effective volunteer action, and we sincerely thank all volunteers for their efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.

Hannah Barrington
President, Junior League Edmonton
